This morning I’m on a plane to Pittsburgh! I’m headed to Quilt Market, a twice-a-year industry trade show where new fabric collections are unveiled and massive orders are placed. Harvey will be home with daddy and I get to have fun with my friends. Needless to say, I’m thrilled!
I thought I’d tell you a little more about what this week will be like and do a round up of some of the collections we’ll get to see this week. If you stay glued to your instagram/twitter/facebook feeds you’ll also get to see real time updates this week. Pittsburgh is only five hours behind, so you won’t lose too much sleep!
First up, the modern quilting world is waiting with bated breath to see the new collections from Cotton + Steel. The first day of Market, before the trade show opens, we attend Schoolhouse – a series of short presentations by designers and brands who present their wares and get us pumped up about selling them. RJR Fabrics, (Cotton + Steel’s parent company) have booked out the entire first session to show off the debut collections from their five fabulous designers. First through the door get a Cotton + Steel tote bag – no doubt we’ll be vying for ours! If we’re lucky, we’ll also come home with samples of these collections from Sample Spree.
I’m always really excited to see the new organic collections from Cloud 9, Birch and Monaluna. Cloud 9 have so much to show this year – they are expanding their business with new substrates and basics. Some of the highlights will be new yarn-dyed Cirrus Solids, Revelry, a voile collection by Lisa Congdon and Time Warp, a barkcloth collection by Jessica Jones. Geninne is also back with a new collection called Moody Blues!
Jennifer at Monaluna will be announcing a new collection called Under the Sea which features mermaids! She also has two new knits collections to unveil, including one based on Meadow. Eek!
These days when I visit the Kokka booth I mainly look at the gorgeous Japanese dressmaking fabrics, but I’m also really excited to see Ellen Luckett Baker’s new line, Framework.
Jeni Baker and Leah Duncan have new lines to show at Art Gallery, plus we’ll get to see samples from the new mini collections by April Rhodes, Sara Lawson and Caroline Hulse. Word is, Art Gallery are going to have an entire section of the booth devoted to garment sewing to show off their new voile and knit fabrics which are going to accompany every collection!
If you’re a Customer Advisory Board member you’ve already had a chance to share your thoughts on Anna Maria Horner‘s new mega-collection, Pretty Potent! I can’t wait to see what she’s done with this gorgeous collection. We’ll be getting the quilting cotton soon and the voile, rayon and flannel and knits will follow! The designs in this range were inspired by beautiful plants that also have medicinal purposes!
Dear Stella has some pretty and sophisticated collections to share. They’ve only posted peeks on their blog, so here is what we have to look forward to! The first one, Flirt, is inspired by hand-painted porcelain and blooming meadows in the English countryside. Emerson features shades of indigo merged with crisp white and soft grey.
I’m a fan of Patty Sloniger at Michael Miller, and it looks like she has a new line to share! Here is a peek at some of the samples for Emma’s Garden.
So tell us: what would you like to see pictures of at Quilt Market?
