A road trip play mat for Harvey!
We are down to just a few metres of this road trip print from Riley Blake‘s Scenic Route, which I absolutely adore and also used in another colourway in Harvey’s duvet, so I thought I’d better get around to blogging it quick. I actually made it quite a few months ago!
This is really just another super simple blanket, made of one metre piece of two fabrics, corners rounded and then sewn right sides together and flipped round and top stitched. When this fabric arrived in the shop it just screamed play mat to me. And it’s perfect for Harvey, who loves cars.
We probably took a hundred photos and he’s just a blur in all but the one above. What a little man on the move!
I backed this blanket with an organic cotton canvas from Geocentric, a Cloud9 collection we unfortunately don’t have in stock anymore. I chose canvas to make it a little harder wearing, with outdoor adventures in mind.
For this project I added a pocket on the back to tuck little cars in, which of course I don’t have any pictures of, and carefully placed velcro so that it could be rolled up and packed up neatly. This kind of works, but with cars in the pocket it doesn’t stay rolled up. Design flaw.
In case you’re curious, the wonderful wooden cars in the picture below are by Toporko and were a gift from our lovely customer Zrinka. I love them so much that I keep them in the little cloth bag they came in when Harvey is finished playing with them so they won’t get lost!
