Back to school! September classes at The Village Haberdashery in West Hampstead
Two days: Saturday, 10 September, and Sunday, 11 September, 10am – 5pm (£195)
Learn to sew beautiful, well-fitting garments with Great British Sewing Bee winner Charlotte Newland! Have your previous attempts at dressmaking been disappointing? Patterns are designed to fit an imaginary woman, but we are real people with different body types and shapes. Taught over two full days, in this class you will learn to make clothes that fit and flatter your body by taking accurate measurements and altering the pattern before even cutting the fabric. You will make a test garment (muslin) to check and adjust fit, before finally sewing a gorgeous dress in the fabric of your choice using the Sylvie pattern. This class will cover taking accurate measurements, basic pattern adjustments (blending between sizes, bust adjustments, lengthening/shortening), evaluating fit and garment construction. The Zen Variations by Renée Callahan is a collection of sweaters that embraces the idea that knitting is a physical meditation. Each sweater begins in the same way with a top-down, set-in sleeve construction, and then develops with variations on the theme of Zen. The patterns are designed for Acadia by The Fibre Co. and have simple, clean designs to showcase the rustic beauty of the yarn. This workshop will cover the sweater construction Renée used for the Zen Variations sweaters, guiding you through choosing the correct size for you, the short-row shoulders, picking up stitches for trims and sweater elements, how to work a set-in seamless sleeve, adjusting a pattern to get the perfect fit and more. The class fee will include the pattern of your choice and 15% off Acadia yarn. Find out more and sign up here.
