Behind the scenes with Alison Glass at Quilt Market
This post has been updated with new pics!
I typically inundate you guys with images on our Instagram feed when I’m at Quilt Market and I thought this time I’d try to also give you more words on the show here on the blog, to more fully share the experience with you!
For those of you who don’t know, Quilt Market is our industry’s main trade show and happens twice a year – in Houston in October and in a rotating bunch of cities in May. I’m in Minneapolis this time.
For the past couple of years I’ve roomed with Alison Glass and the past two markets I’ve gotten to help her with her booth set up. I think this is probably what you guys are most excited about hearing about, right? Well good. Here is her booth when we showed up in the morning. Months of prep and planning go into the booth design which I’m not involved with at all. I just get to help execute on the plan!
Alison has amazing booths and I can’t wait to see this one finished. The first thing we (we also includes, this year, Chen @mushyhed and Jessica @craftypickle) did was put down wallpaper for the floors and fabric-covered foam for the walls. That tree branch will come into play later, but you’ll have to wait to see what it’s used for!
I helped put the finishing touches on this part of her booth’s art installation, which will no doubt rival those at Anthropologie! Can you see peeks of Ex Libris, Sun Print, Handcrafted and Handcrafted 2?
The floors are painted hot pink! I helped with this. We joked it’s like we’re bridesmaids trying to help Alison have a perfect wedding day. I’m thrilled to get to crawl on the floor for this bride!
I’m not going to show you how we left things because the booth needs a big reveal, so here are some peeks at the projects and fabrics that will be on show. This is one of the designs from Handcrafted 2 which will be in stores (hopefully) next month. I might even love this collection more than the first. There are so many awesome designs, colours, border prints…you’ll love it. Word is Handcrafted 3 is also in the works!
Here is a picture of all of Handcrafted 1 & 2 in the front and new Sun Print in the back. I got to put them in rainbow order!
Here is me trying to get a good snap of Handcrafted 2 in our hotel room whilst Jessica hand-stitches the binding on one of Alison’s quilts.
Andover are now finally embracing dressmaking substrates and Alison will have a collection of 11 cotton jersey knit solids! These will coordinate with Handcrafted and the quality is amazing. Alison Glass dressmaking patterns are also in the works!
This chair is one of two covered in Ex Libris chambray which will be in our shop very soon. Doesn’t it look great? This is just a simple Ikea hack.
Here is a picture of the final booth! It is gorgeous.
That’s all for now, but follow us on Instagram to see more pics of today’s activities!
