Cross stitch with Loominous!
I loved the idea of using the Illuminated Graph design from Anna Maria Horner‘s new Loominous collection for cross stitch and I finally decided to give it a go! I’ve done cross stitch one other time in a class with Sophie Simpson from What Delilah Did and I loved it, so it only took a quick refresher using Sophie’s tutorial to get me ready to stitch again.
Loominous is a beautiful yarn-dyed woven collection and we have the Illuminated Graph design in four gorgeous colours. This was a pleasure to cross stitch on, in part because it didn’t require good natural light and I could thus stitch away in the evening whilst binge-watching Last Week Tonight.
I chose a design from Embroidery Companion by Alicia Paulson. This is a fabulous all-around embroidery book with tonnes of information and ideas for embellishing different types of projects with various embroidery stitches. This design was meant for a napkin, but I thought it would work well for my plans too!
A 10″ embroidery hoop, an embroidery needle, the four recommended colours of DMC embroidery thread and a fat quarter of Illuminated Graph in Fog and I was good to go! I ended up using two skeins (I fell just short with one) of the main colour, in case you decide to try this design too.
Here is a close up of my stitches as I was getting started. Using such a large grid really eats the thread and you have to change it often, but it’s also super fast!
And here is the final result! After much debate I decided to cut off the excess fabric. I probably won’t make it into a cushion and I think it looks lovely hanging in the hoop.
If you try cross stitch with Loominous please do share your pics with us on Instagram using the tag #tvhhaul so we can find them! I’d love to see!
