We've added loads of new dressmaking classes to our schedule, from swimwear to outerwear at our West Hampstead shop and we can't wait for you to see what we have planned! Pattern Cutting 101: Learn to Draft a T-Shirt Pattern with Alice Prier - 10 May or 19 June

Design your own posh tee shirt in our gentle introduction to pattern cutting! Make it loose, semi-fitted or figure-hugging. Add your favourite sleeve length and most flattering neckline or grow it into a dress. If you can sew a fine seam - maybe even a French one, your zip insertion is truly invisible and you’re not fazed by a facing, you’re ready to start drafting your own designs and a whole new sewing world will be yours!

Sew a Jarrah Jumper with Margot Styfhals - 26 May

The Megan Nielsen Jarrah jumper is a stylish spin on a sweatshirt, designed to keep you warm but still looking put together. Perfect for British summer! In this class you'll sew a Jarrah in your choice of style while learning tips, tricks and techniques for sewing with knit fabrics along the way. You'll get to learn how to sew with knits on a home sewing machine and on an overlocker. 

Learn to Sew Knickers with Charlotte Newland - 1 June

In this fun three-hour class you'll learn to make a pair of cute and comfy knickers using stretch knit fabric and fold over elastic. Knickers are an awesome way to bust your stash of knit fabric scraps. You may never buy knickers from a shop again! Plus pick up tips on sewing with knits and using fold over elastic that you can apply to other projects.

Sew a Stevie Shift Dress with Margo Styfhals - 16 June

The Stevie shift by Tilly and the Buttons is a perfect summer holiday dress! Stevie has a modern, boxy fit, with round neckline and kimono sleeves, closing at the back with pretty ties or button loop. With no darts, zips or set-in sleeves, Stevie is a perfect first pattern for aspiring dressmakers. In this class we'll coach you through working with a sewing pattern, taking accurate measurements, cutting your fabric, garment construction and finishing techniques.

Learn to Sew Swimwear with Charlotte Newland - 30 June

We are so excited to offer our first swimwear class with Sewing Bee champ and swimwear-sewing expert Charlotte Newland! In this class we'll be sewing the new Megan Nielsen Cottesloe swimsuit, a classic one-piece or mix and match bikini set suitable for sizes 0-30. Working with the pattern variation of your choice, you'll learn how to cut and sew stretch fabrics, work with swimwear elastic, finish seams and make simple fitting adjustments. Get ready for summer in this fun one-day class!

Sewing for Kids: Zoe Dress with Anna Hodgson - 7 July

If you know how to sew and would love to start sewing for children, this class is for you! The Zoe Dress by Two Stitches is one of our most popular children's patterns! It is a traditional A-line dress with a gently curved bottom panel where the pockets are concealed, and a fully buttoned back (we'll be using snaps in class!) Whether you choose the short sleeved or sleeveless option, use contrasting fabric for the front panel or not, this is a fun pattern to add your own touch to.

27 Dresses Pattern Cutting Weekender with Alice Prier - 20 & 21 July

Learn how to create one simple block that will let you create infinite varieties! In this two-day class you'll learn the basic concepts of pattern cutting using the Telestia Fashion Express Tool. You'll go home with a flattering semi-fitted dress block to your measurements and learn how to change the length, alter the neckline, adapt the sleeves, and more! This class is a perfect introduction to pattern cutting for confident sewers.

Fitting Masterclasses with Charlotte Newland

Saturday 31 May - Fitting Masterclass: Bodice
Sunday 1 August - Fitting Masterclass: Trousers

These intensive one-day classes are designed for students who know how to sew, but want to learn how to make trousers or a bodice that fits beautifully. Working with the  pattern of your choice, our experienced instructor will teach you tips and techniques for taking accurate measurements, making a muslin, evaluating fit, basic pattern adjustments (such as blending between sizes, identifying and fixing drag lines, making full tummy and/or flat seat adjustments) and altering your pattern. You'll leave class with a finished muslin and a corrected pattern so you can make the trousers/bodice of your dreams at home!

Jeans Masterclass with Charlotte Newland - 13, 14 & 15 September

Have you ever dreamed of sewing yourself a pair of great-fitting jeans? The idea of sewing jeans can be intimidating for even the most experienced dressmakers, but in this class our talented teacher will guide you through every step, from trouser-fitting to inserting a zip-fly to top-stitching to installing jeans hardware. Choose from high-waisted stretch Ginger Jeans or non-stretch boyfriend Morgan Jeans, both by Closet Case Patterns. This class is limited to just five students and takes place over three full days so you'll be able to make a full muslin and get personalised instruction at every step of the process!

Dressmaking 101 with Charlotte Newland - 28 September

Would you love to make clothes but find patterns impossible to understand? This one-day class will demystify the dressmaking process whilst you make a beautiful skirt in the fabric of your choice using the Cleo pattern by Made by Rae. You will learn standard sewing terms and techniques that you can apply to other patterns and gain the confidence to sew your own clothes. This class will cover taking accurate measurements, accurate cutting and construction methods.

Learn to Sew a Coat Weekender with Charlotte Newland - 9 & 10 November

This is the year you sew a coat! The Opium Coat by Deer & Doe is a beautiful fully-lined swing coat with raglan sleeves and origami welt pockets. With no zip or buttons, it's a perfect first coat project that can be completed in a weekend. You can do this! With the guidance of our talented teacher, Sewing Bee winner Charlotte Newland, you'll learn how to work with coating fabrics, insert a lining, construct pockets and more!
