It’s a boy!
It’s no secret I’m pregnant, but I thought it might be time to make an official announcement: Ed and I are expecting a baby boy on 10 April! It’s all very exciting and, as you can imagine, quite busy around here. I have been feeling a bit guilty because I haven’t made anything for the poor kid (a few other things on my plate, you know) but when we got our stock of MillaMia yarn last week, and we had a little extra downtime for Christmas, I thought it was time to break out the knitting needles.
You can see the result on our homepage!
MillaMia’s Naturally Soft Merino is perfect for babies and children because it’s super soft and machine-washable. At £5.50 per 50g skein It’s also very reasonably priced, especially for small projects like these baby socks which took less than half of the skein (just look how much is left in the picture above). MillaMia is known for bright, Scandinavian-inspired colours but we chose the more subtle grey Forget Me Not for this first pair.
I wanted a quick and satisfying project that I could actually finish, so I pulled out More Last Minute Knitted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson, a book I absolutely love, and turned to the baby socks pattern. I’ve made socks once before, so these baby socks were really fast and easy (once I refreshed my memory on Kitchener Stitch, of course). MillaMia recommend 3.25mm needles but I used 3.5mm to get the gauge in this pattern right.
The result is so cute and cozy! I’m really pleased to finally have something handmade for the baby, if only this little pair of socks!
