June classes at The Village Haberdashery in West Hampstead
We’ve been working hard to fill up our class schedule with some awesome new offerings. Introduction to Cable Knitting with Rachel Brown – Wednesday, 25 May, 6:30pm – 9:30pm
Cable knitting is a technique used to create the appearance of a twisted rope or plait. It looks complicated, but it shouldn’t be scary! In this one-evening class, our experienced instructor will take the fear out of cable knitting and show you that this beautiful stitch is actually quite simple. You’ll learn how to read patterns and charts and have the opportunity to swatch various cables and technqiues. If you’re interested in getting help on a specific cable knitting pattern, feel free to bring it with you.
Sew a Stowe Bag with Rachel Pinhiero – Saturday, 4 June, 10am – 4pm
The Stowe Bag is the ideal project bag – whatever your project may be! The main compartment is perfect for works-in-progress while the many side pockets organise small tools, patterns and notebooks. You’ll find it equally useful for a variety of purposes from travel to everyday! In this class we’ll sew up the Stowe pattern in the size and version of your choice, covering techniques from straight stitching to applying bias binding.
Introduction to Knitting Socks with Rachel Brown – Wednesday, 8 June, 6:30pm – 9:30pm
Fun and functional, knitting socks is extremely addictive! In this one-evening class, you’ll learn all the essential sock-knitting skills using the Training Sock pattern by Kate Atherley. We’ll cover knitting in the round on double-pointed needles, heel shaping, picking up gusset stitches, decreasing stitches and finishing with a beautiful Kitchener stitch.
Patchwork Techniques: Circles Four Ways with Jenny Haynes – Saturday, 11 June, 10am – 5pm
Take your quilting to the next level with four new techniques for machine and hand-piecing curves! In this class we’ll cover needle applique, bias binding, EPP and the six-minute circle. Students can choose to make four different blocks of follow our teacher Jenny Haynes’ pattern for using all four techniques in one block!
Patchwork Techniques: Machine Pieced Curves with Jenny Haynes – Sunday, 12 June, 10am – 5pm
Face your fear of curved piecing and learn to sew beautiful curves on your machine in this inspiring one-day class! Our teacher, Jenny Haynes of Papper, Sax, Sten, will teach you how to cut, sew and press curves and create her own curvy Sunflower block. The block can be used as a bag panel, a cushion or the start of your own Sunflower quilt! As part of the class fee you’ll receive a free template worth £15 that has been custom made by Jenny for her sunflower quilt but can also be used for a huge range of drunkards path designs.
June Knitting Workshop for Beginners and Improvers with Rachel Brown – Wednesday, 15 June, 7pm – 9pm
This class is for total beginners, knitters who haven’t picked up their needles in years and want a refresher or students who want to learn or improve a knitting technique. In this monthly class we will tailor knitting instruction to your specific skills and goals so you can tackle a new project or just get started with your new favourite hobby!
Quilted Cushion with Judith Dahmen – Saturday, 18 June, 10am – 4pm
In this class you’ll learn many of the steps to making a patchwork quilt by sewing a quilted cushion! Participants will learn how to use a rotary cutter, how to machine piece patchwork pieces together using a ¼ inch foot on a sewing machine, how to machine quilt the front of the cushion, how to sew a zip. Students will also have the option of learning how to attach a binding. In short almost everything required to start making quilts!
Sew a Geranium Dress with Zoe Edwards – Saturday, 25 June, 10am – 5pm
The Geranium Dress is a sweet and incredibly versatile little girls’ dress that offers lots of opportunities to learn new sewing techniques! This dress is lined and you’ll have the option of learning how to create a notched neckline and you can choose from View A to learn how to construct flutter sleeves and gather a skirt or View B to learn how to construct a pleated skirt. You’ll leave class with loads of new skills and an adorable dress!
Sew a Wren Dress with Rachel Pinheiro – Thursday, 30 June, and Thursday, 7 July, 6:30pm – 9:30pm
The Wren Dress is a feminine, figure-flattering wrap-style knit dress that can be styled up or down. Make it sleek with a sleeveless bodice and a fitted, 6-gore skirt, or romantic with short sleeves and a gathered A-line skirt! In this class we’ll cover everything you need to know about sewing a knit garment on a home sewing machine, from fitting to finishing. You’ll also get a chance to try using an overlocker and will have the option to try using a twin needle to hem your dress.
