Learn something new in January!
Is learning to sew, knit or crochet one of your New Years’ resolutions? We have some great classes coming up in our West Hampstead shop, including a truly jam-packed January! Lizzy House’s Meadow Block Workshop – £85
Half day: Saturday, 3 January, 9am – 1pm OR 2pm – 6pm
Join us for a special workshop with visiting designer Lizzy House! In this half-day class you’ll have the rare opportunity to learn to make Lizzy’s beautiful Meadow Block. The Meadow is a quilt she designed for her fabric collection Hello Pilgrim and it is not available as a pattern. For more information and to reserve a place, click here.
January Star Block of the Month – £40
One evening: Monday, 12 January, 6:30pm – 9pm
Join our 2014 Block of the Month Club! Charlotte will teach a new block in a class at our West Hampstead shop the second Monday of every month. Each block will be a version of a star and there will be four block sizes that all fit together, with some repeats, in the end to make up a 64″ x 82″ quilt top. The block we’ll be learning in January is the Lemoyne star (8″ sashed to 12”). You can sign up for just one class at a time, or participate every month! Learn to Sew with Tilly Walnes: Bow Belt – £50
One evening: Thursday, 15 January, 6:30pm – 9:30pm
Are you a total beginner or has it been so long since you sewed you’re afraid you won’t know which end of the sewing machine is up? This class is for you! With the guidance of your teacher, Tily Walnes, you’ll learn your way around a sewing machine plus how to read a pattern whilst sewing a pretty 1950’s inspired bow belt using. This class will introduce novice stitchers – or those who need a refresher – to the basics of sewing, from threading the machine to stitching curves and corners. Sew a Sureau Dress with Zoe Edwards – £135
Two days: Saturday, 17 January, and Sunday, 18 January, 10:30am – 4:30pm
Join us over one weekend and you will leave with a beautiful Sureau dress made exactly for you, by you! In this class you’ll learn how to construct a fitted bodice with gathered bust, insert a zip, attach facings, set sleeves and more! Sew a Laurel Dress with Rachel Pinheiro – £105
Two evenings: Tuesday, 20 January and Wednesday, 21 January, 6pm – 9pm
The Laurel Dress by Colette Patterns is a chic and simple shift dress that works with a wide range of fabrics and nearly any print, year round! In this two-evening class, you’ll learn how to use bust and back darts for a beautiful fit, set sleeves, use bias binding to finish seams and more! Knitting Crash Course with Natalie Selles – £35
One evening: Tuesday, 20 January, 7pm – 9pm
This class is for total beginners and knitters who haven’t picked up their needles in years and want a refresher. We will cover knitting basics, including casting on, knit and purl stitches and casting off. In short, everything you need to know to get started knitting this winter! Introduction to Foundation Piecing with Charlotte Newland – £45
One evening: Thursday, 22 January, 6:30 – 9:30pm
Foundation piecing is an addictive patchwork technique that enables you to sew intricate shapes accurately and achieve precise points perfectly! In this class our experienced teacher will guide you through the process of creating two different quilt blocks using foundation piecing. You’ll leave with the know-how to tackle any foundation piecing pattern and two beautiful finished blocks that you’ll be able to turn into cushions, tote bags or the basis for an entire quilt! Improvisational Patchwork with Charlotte Newland – £85
One day: Saturday, 24 January, 10am – 4pm
In this exciting class you’ll learn improvisational concepts and techniques that will change the way you think about colour, patchwork and your own creativity! First you’ll break out of your comfort zone and learn to embrace random, improvisational piecing. Then you’ll learn free cutting and piecing techniques, including improvisational curves and slash and insert methods. In this class, beginners will learn how to choose fabric for their pillow case, set up and thread a machine, cut and prepare fabric for sewing and basic construction techniques whilst making a pillow case for their bed! For more information and to reserve a place, click here.
Learn to Crochet with Elisalex de Castro Peake – £35
One evening: Wednesday, 28 January, 7pm – 9pm

Learn to Knit Mittens with Natalie Selles – £50
Two evenings: Tuesdays, 27 January and 3 March, 7pm – 9pm
Knit a pair of cosy mittens! In this class you’ll learn to in the round on double pointed needles, knit ribbing, how to increase and decrease and more. Make them for yourself or a child. For more details and to reserve a place, click here.
Make a Quilted and Bound Cushion with Judith Dahmen – £75
One day: Saturday, 31 January, 10am – 4pm
In this class you’ll learn the steps to making a patchwork quilt by sewing a quilted cushion! Participants will learn how to use a rotary cutter, how to machine piece patchwork pieces together using a ¼ inch foot on a sewing machine, how to machine quilt the front of the cushion, how to sew a zip and finally how to attach binding. If you can’t make it to any of our classes but you’re itching to start a new project, our sewing studio can be rented at £8 per person per hour. This includes the use of a sewing machine and our overlocker, all of our sewing tools and full access to the biscuit tin! Call or email us to book.
