Learn something new! Open classes the week of 28 April 2014

Want to take a sewing, knitting, crochet or craft class in our West Hampstead shop? We have a very busy week ahead. Here are the classes in which you can still grab a spot. Remember: when you book two or more classes for yourself or for you and a friend use code STITCH2 to save 10%.

Our Knitting Workshop with Monica Russel resumes on Tuesday! This unique knitting workshop is open to students at all levels and is booked in blocks of three.

With the guidance and support of our experienced instructor, beginners will learn the basics in the first lesson so that they become confident with a project. Participants who already have knitting skills will learn new techniques such as working with cables, knitting fair isle patterns and using intarsia in projects as well as learning to read patterns. After you register, our instructor will help you choose a project to match your skills which you can work on at your own pace in the workshop time and practice at home. Sign up here.

On Tuesday, sew a shopping tote or beach bag with Judith Dahmen! This is a great class for new sewers.

Sew a shopping tote

In this class you’ll learn to sew a simple tote bag that can be used as a shopping tote or beach bag! You’ll learn to sew a bag with a lining or french seams (your choice!), how to box corners and how to make and attach bag straps and will leave with a fun and handy tote bag. Sign up here.

On Wednesday, take part in our monthly Crochet Workshop to refresh your skills, learn a new technique or tackle a complex project with the guidance of our experienced instructor, Elisalex de Castro Peake!

This month’s featured project is a chunky chevron blanket using two different weights of yarns for an interesting textured finish. You’ll learn the chevron stitch and how to change colours in class whilst getting a good start on the project with the help of our teacher and you’ll and leave with the skills and understanding to finish the project at home. You’re also welcome to bring your own project and use the time to get some help from our experienced teacher. Sign up here.

Thursday night our favourite Great British Sewing Bee alum, Tilly Walnes, will teach her Learn to Sew class! Starting from scratch? This class is for you!

Learn to sew with Tilly Walnes

This class will introduce novice stitchers – or those who need a refresher – to the basics of sewing, from threading the machine to stitching curves and corners. After getting to grips with the sewing machine, we will make a gorgeous 1950s inspired bow belt for you to take home. Sign up here.

On Saturday Rachel Walker will be leading us in sewing Camber Dresses! If you want to start making your own clothes, is a great first dressmaking project.

Sew a camber dress

The Camber Dress by Merchant & Mills is a classic, easy-to-wear shift dress with short fitted sleeves. With no zip and a tapered A-line silhouette that doesn’t require extensive fitting, it’s a great first dress pattern for aspiring dressmakers. This class will cover essential construction, techniques, basic garment fitting and pattern-reading and finishing techniques including how to attach a bias binding. You’ll leave class with a beautiful dress and the confidence to tackle more complex dressmaking projects. Sign up here.

Saturday, 3 May, is Yarn Shop Day! Learn to knit pretty spring flowers in this free 90-minute class. All materials are provided and this class is suitable for all levels. Depending on your level, you’ll leave the class with at least one flower and maybe more! Registration is essential Sign up for the 11am – 12:30pm class here.
