Learn to sew with knits – three new classes added!
The new organic Elk Grove Knits collection from Birch Fabrics is coming soon and we’ve lined up a fabulous new sewing teacher to help us all get over the fear of sewing with knit fabric! Zoe Edwards of the blog So Zo…What do you know? is known as ‘The Queen of Knits’ by her peers in the dressmaking blogger world and we’re super excited that she’ll be teaching not one but three fun classes with us.
All three classes include everything you need to sew your garment, including the sewing pattern, which you’ll get to keep, and your choice of 10 fabric designs from the Elk Grove Knits collection. Sewing machines are provided and students will have the option to sew their garment on the shop’s overlocker. If you have an overlocker at home that you’d like help learning to use, you’re welcome to bring it to class! We know how intimidating they can be.
The Renfrew is one of Sewaholic’s most popular patterns and everyone I know who has made it loves it. It’s a great basic to nail and comes with lots of pattern variations. In this class we’ll be sewing a short-sleeved v-neck or scoop-neck version and you’ll get to keep your pattern so you can try the other options at home!
For kids we’ll be doing a t-shirt class using Figgy’s Banyan pattern. Zoe sent us the t-shirt below to have as a shop sample and it’s absolutely adorable in real life. It’s a perfect pattern for both boys and girls.
Finally Zoe will be teaching her own pants pattern. In this class you’ll get to learn some cool new tricks like how to sew with fold over elastic. This would be a fun class to take with a friend!
