Quilt Market Fall 2015: These are a few of my favourite things

I just got back from Quilt Market in Houston and I’m super excited to share my favourite collections and announcements with you! If you followed me on Instagram during the trade show you’ll have seen these, but here we can slow it down and chat a bit more. Please, please forgive the quality of these photos. The lighting at Quilt Market is just the worst ever!

The most exciting news at Market was that Anna Rifle Bond of Rifle Paper Company will be a guest designer for Cotton + Steel in the spring! All we know is that the collection is called Les Fleurs (and I bet there’ll be plenty of peonies). Don’t worry, we pre-ordered sight unseen to make sure we get it in the first wave. It’s going to be crazy gorgeous!

My favourite collection from Cotton + Steel this Market was Bluebird! I think this wall did it for me. Oh man, amazing. The hand stitching and pops of red. Yes!

Here is a peek at all the awesome samples in the Cotton + Steel booth. Man, those cushions in Rashida’s are so cool! We’ve ordered our faves from all the collections. Plus there will be a Black and White 2 and new Halloween and Christmas collections but I wasn’t allowed to take pics. I’m sure all will be revealed soon!

One more thing before we move on from Cotton + Steel…they are doing solid lawns! And there is going to be a big lawn quilt contest so read up on that and get ready. Lawns in the best colours are coming!

I helped Alison Glass set up her booth again but there was no floor painting involved. In fact, I was practically useless, but it was still fun to hang out and see it all come together! Her booth is always so colourful and that floor is created using decals to look like one of the designs in Abacus. Genius!

Alison’s Andover Jersey Knits are coming next week and I seriously wished I could take all these t-shirts and run. They were made by Karen LePage, who designed a pair of dressmaking pattern sets with Alison that are coming in December. You’re going to want them – there is one for knits and one for woven and together they are basically an entire wardrobe.

Alison Glass Handcrafted Indigos are also coming next week. So stunning!

My friend Brenda got me excited about Lecien’s First of Infinity collection. This line has been going for a while, but this is the first time I’ve ordered it. So cool, guys. So cool. And that quilt is by our talented customer Nicholas!

Lizzy House has about a zillion new Mini Pearl Bracelets coming in the new year! We’ve ordered loads of new colours for you. Plus – and I wasn’t allowed to take pics of this – I’m so excited about Lizzy’s lawn and double gauze coming in January! We ordered a some of both, and they’ll be favourites from The Lovely Hunt, so get ready for that. And if you can’t wait, we have lots of Lizzy’s current collections in stock now!

I know how much you love chambrays, but I was totally floored by how bad you guys want these printed chambrays from Andover! We’ll be getting them in when they are available in April – I promise. And in other chambrays news, we have the three chambrays from Ex Libris due back in stock on Monday or Tuesday. Yay!

Sarah Jane has a new collection called Sommer, which is inspired by her Scandinavian roots and is her first collection intended for adults as well as children. There is a real mix of designs here, from painterly ginghams to darling swans to pretty florals. And of course, a good border print! Also, for the first time, Sommer will include designs on double gauze, a super soft swaddle gauze, and cotton canvas!

Birch do knits so well! I have a huge wish list with these guys and we’re going to be surveying you on some of their upcoming collections soon so we can get some of this good stuff in. Love these baby bodysuits!

Leisl Gibson is now designing for Robert Kaufman! Her first collection there will be Woodland Clearing, a line of painterly florals on lawn plus one laminate. So pretty!

There are also some cool garment basics coming from Robert Kaufman. My top picks are the selvedge denim (so on trend, RK!), the nubbly speckled cotton jersey and the preppy embroidered cotton corduroy.

Art Gallery‘s big announcement at Market is that they are now doing denim too! Denims and chambrays in lots of weights and prints. I think the printed denims are my fave!

Ellen Luckett Baker‘s new Rough Cuts collection for Kokka was so awesome! The designs in this line all began as actual paper cuttings and the result is really striking. She also used a lot of neon which makes me so happy. I’ve ordered a mix of the canvas and double gauze so we can make all the tops and all the bags. Yay!

Anna Maria Horner‘s booth was the coolest. She recreated the main design from her upcoming Fibs and Fables collection into this life size diorama kind of thing. Amazing! She’s also been super busy. Fibs and Fables is coming soon, plus next year she’ll have new True Colours, a complementary neutrals line called Skipping Stones, a new floral quilting cotton collection in the spring and Loominous 2 (eek!) in Autumn.

There were some really fun quilts in Heather Ross‘s Mendocino booth! This collection is being re-released by Windham with updated colours and I know you guys are excited about it. It’s such a pretty collection for quilts and garments and I was surprised how much I loved the orange and blue combination in person.

Cloud9 are doing some great work, as always, and I’m super excited about their new collections and the new designers they have on board. Aneela Hoey has two new lines coming out. The first is Vignette, due in December and shown below, on double gauze and quilting cotton. It’s so pretty and I’m thrilled to have more lovely double gauze coming! Aneela’s second line for Cloud9 will be Foxglove and that’s coming out in March.

Leah Duncan is now with Cloud9 and also has two collections coming up! Lore, coming in March, will be on quilting weight cotton, and Yucca, coming in April, will be on voile. The two collections shared a booth and they are everything you love about Leah. I could not be more thrilled with these!

Also, Jessica Jones is doing a new line of barkcloth and the designs look so rad. Get ready to re-upholster everything you own!

And we can’t wait for these stripey organic jersey knits!

Luke Haynes has a collection coming out with Moda called Dapper and it includes both wovens and bright printed cottons. The wovens are a range of plaids and checks in really pretty colours, while the prints are a fun mix of bold 80’s inspired motifs. It’s all very, very cool!

Violet Craft has updated her Brambleberry Ridge collection for Christmas! Yes, those stags are back, in red and green! The quilts she created for this Christmas at Brambleberry Ridge are so fun, but unfortunately we’re going to have to wait until next Christmas to sew with this line because it isn’t due out until March.

Jennifer at Monaluna has a fabulous new collection out called Anya and it’s available on knits, quilting cotton and…barkcloth! There are so many options here, I think we’re going to have to do a survey. These are my fave barkcloths below and I’m a huge fan and so happy to see more designs on this rad substrate.

Lucky us, we already have Carkai in the shop, but we can’t not share pics of Carolyn Friedlander‘s booth because it was a work of art. She pattern-matched the whole wall on the left which is mind blowing in person. And I love all the colour in Carkai which is so beautifully displayed in her quilts on the right. Plus, she upholstered chairs!

And, finally, I couldn’t not show you Patty Sloniger’s booth because she has a mermaid dress! The star of the show for sure.
