Shirt-stripes summer skirt

Wee! I made a skirt! When Kaffe Fassett’s Spring collection came out my favourite print hands down was the shirt-stripes in green. I just love the bright colours – the green and fuschia and turquoise are so pretty together. I could just picture it as a skirt. At the weekend I was dragging Ed around the Berwick street fabric shops and then on to Liberty in search of fabric for DSD’s flower girl handbag. When we finally got to Liberty, and Ed was about to kill me, I found it on the shelves!

I cut it roughly following the skirt pieces of a Kwik Sew dress pattern and after that just made the rest up. I wanted something easy, breezy and quick to make. I cut it and sewed it up the same night, in the time it took to watch a pirated version of Bridesmaids (for the second time). I was going for a grown-up version of Dana’s Simple Skirt but I didn’t have enough fabric and had to do the waistband as a separate piece. Took longer and as more complicated, but in the end I’m happy with the result.
