Reel to Reel Workshop with Jenny Haynes - 14 July

This class is all about the Oval Drunkard's Path Block. We'll make a Twin (or Throw) sized Reel to Reel quilt top inspired by the Japanese design concept Notan and look at how the play between light and dark affects the design. This quilt was featured in the 2018 QuilCon Magazine and received the third place award in the Two Colour Challenge at QuiltCon 2019!

The three different sizes of curves in this block all come together using a different technique but all without the use of pins despite the irregular curve of the oval. Cutting and piecing the blocks and achieving perfectly matching seams is made easy with the Oval Drunkard's Path templates.

A Swedish exile having spent the previous 18 years in London and Sheffield, Jenny Haynes (née Nilsson) studied Pattern Cutting and Tailoring in her native Stockholm. Soon after, she followed her passion for fabrics and moved to London to study Fashion and Textiles at the London College of Fashion. She went on to develop her own label ‘Papper, Sax, Sten’ (that’s ‘Paper, Scissors, Stone’ in case you’re wondering!), creating designs that reflect her many different influences.

More recently Jenny was asked to contribute to a publication by Thames & Hudson for the V&A. Two of Jenny’s quilts are featured in Patchwork & Quilting: A Maker’s Guide, ‘Designed by teachers and practitioners at the leading edge of today’s craft revival, the projects are both functional and fashionable’.

Apart from designing and making quilts, Jenny also teaches quilting and does talks about quilting and her design process, in the UK and abroad.
