Updated class schedule – new classes and dates added

We’ve been busy organising lots of new classes! Read on to find out what’s coming and visit our class page and calendar for complete details and registration information. Or just pop into the shop and sign up on the spot! All sewing classes include the use of our Janome machines and all of the tools you need.

Introduction to Crochet with Elisalex de Castro Peake – £45
One-day class: Wednesday, 15 May, 6:30 – 9:30pm

Spend a fun and relaxing evening learning how to crochet! During the first half of the class we will focus on learning basic stitches and getting familiar with crochet pattern lingo. During the second half of the class you’ll be provided with a choice of projects to start during class and continue at home.

Modern Quilting Sampler with Katy Jones – £125
Two-day class:  Saturdays, 18 & 25 May, 10am – 4pm

Led by popular quilting blogger and author Katy Jones, this class will provide you with an exciting introduction to the world of modern quilting using the half square triangle piecing technique! Half square triangles are one of the most important building blocks of patchwork and the variations of blocks you can create using them are endless. On day one we will be cutting fabrics and assembling the half square triangles; you’ll learn how to piece accurately and trim effectively. Once all the units are pieced you can play around with layouts, creating six blocks. Day two is creating a quilt top. Katy will teach you how to plan your quilt top and how to make the most of your blocks to create an individual and striking modern sampler. You’ll leave with a gorgeous finished quilt top and the skills you need to complete your quilt at home.

Make an iPad Cover with Judith Dahmen – £45
One-day class: Wednesday, 22 May, 6:30 – 9:30pm

Holiday time is fast approaching and besides the beach towel, bikini and swim trunks we love to take our favourite gadgets with us! In one fun evening workshop, Judith will teach you how to sew a padded cover for your Kindle, iPad or laptop to keep it protected and looking great.

Make a Baby Quilt with Judith Dahmen – £125
Three-day class: Wednesdays, 19 and 26 June and 3 July, 6:30 – 9:30pm

A baby quilt is a wonderful way to welcome a little one into the world and is the perfect size for learning to quilt! In this three-evening course you will learn all the techniques that are required to make a quilt starting from the design process to piecing, machine or hand quilting and finishing with the all important binding that gives the quilt its frame. At the end of the course, you’ll leave with a beautiful finished baby or mini quilt measuring 36” by 40”.

Learn to Sew: Gingham Embroidered Apron with Marilyn Lewin – £55
One-day class: Saturday, 11 May, 10am – 2pm

A perfect course for complete beginners and those looking to refresh their skills after a few years away from the sewing machine! In this two-day class you’ll sew a vintage-style gingham apron whilst learning the basics of using sewing machine, from winding the bobbin to threading the machine to straight stitching. You’ll also have a chance to experiment with cross stitch to embellish your apron. Participants will leave with a great foundation for our dressmaking and quilting courses.

Learn to sew: Tilly’s Bow Belt with Tilly Walnes – £45
One-day class: Wednesday, 29 May, 6:30 – 9:30pm

Led by Tilly Walnes from The Great British Sewing Bee, this class will introduce novice stitchers – or those who need a refresher – to the basics of sewing, from threading the machine to stitching curves and corners. After getting to grips with the sewing machine, we will make a gorgeous 1950s inspired bow belt for you to take home.

Knitting Workshop with Monica Russel – £75
Ongoing: Workshop runs 10am – 12pm on Mondays or 7 – 9pm on Tuesdays and is booked in blocks of three.
Because instruction is personalised to each student’s skill level, you may take it as many times as you like!

This unique knitting workshop is open to students at all levels! With the guidance and support of our experienced instructor, beginners will learn the basics in the first lesson so that they become confident with a project. Participants who already have knitting skills will learn new techniques such as working with cables, knitting fair isle patterns and using intarsia in projects as well as learning to read patterns.

The Hollyburn Skirt with Karen Ball – £85
Two-day class: Mondays, 3 & 10 June, 6:30 – 10pm

The Hollyburn Skirt by Sewaholic is a wardrobe essential aimed at beginners and designed for maximum figure flattery. In this class you’ll complete a Hollyburn Skirt under the careful guidance of experienced dressmaker, Karen Ball. You’ll learn how to understand and follow a sewing pattern, and how to fit a skirt as well as techniques and top tips for constructing and finishing garments. You’ll leave the two-evening course with a finished skirt, your own copy of the Hollyburn Skirt pattern and confidence in your dressmaking skills.

Modern Machine Appliqué with Julie Fagan – £45
One-day class: Saturday, 15 June, 10:30am – 1:30pm

Learn the basics of machine appliqué by creating a cheerful linen tea towel with Julie, the designer behind Kip & Fig. You’ll learn how to follow an appliqué pattern, how to position and sew an appliqué design and ways to customise a pattern to make the design your own! All students will leave the class with a finished tea towel.

Quilted and Bound Cushion with Judith Dahmen – £75
One-day class: Saturday, 22 June, 10am – 4pm

Learn the steps to making a patchwork quilt by sewing a quilted cushion! Participants will learn how to use a rotary cutter, how to machine piece patchwork pieces together using a ¼ inch foot on a sewing machine, how to machine quilt the front of the cushion, how to sew a zip and finally how to attach binding. In short almost everything required to start making quilts!
