Easy-peasy piecing for a quick quilt top - learn a modern piecing technique that you can use to construct traditional “Streak of Lightning” or "Trip Around the World" patchwork patterns in a fraction of the usual time. In this three-hour class, you'll learn the basics of measuring, cutting and laying out, assembling and sewing (or piecing) a quilt top.

When finished, your quilt top will measure approximately 80cm by 80cm - perfect for creating a baby quilt or small throw – and you’ll leave with everything you need to know to complete your quilt top at home, how to use this simple technique to create any size you want and the confidence to try your next quilt top independently!

Please note: we will not be completing a full quilt in this class. You can learn techniques for basting, quilting and binding your quilt in our regular Finish That Quilt classes.

About your teacher: Laura is a lifelong crafter and maker who’s been sewing since the age of 5. She brings a “make do and mend” attitude to needlework, jewellery making, papercrafts and sewing. Whether it’s sewing new garments, customising and altering thrifted pieces or putting a modern spin on traditional patchwork, she believes making should be creative, empowering and, most of all, fun.

Skills needed: This class is aimed at beginners but you must know how to use a sewing machine.

Materials: You will need to bring or buy the fabric for your quilt. You will need four long/skinny quarters (measuring 25cm x 110cm) of Quilting Cotton. Sewing machines and all tools will be provided.

All materials can be purchased at The Village Haberdashery and students receive a 10% discount when they purchase class materials in the shop.
