Clone Your Favourite Clothes with Claire-Louise Hardie

£250.00

Do you have a favourite dress or top, or maybe the perfect pair of trousers that you’ve wished you could clone? On this course you’ll learn how create a pattern from your existing garment without you having to unpick! You’ll then make up a toile from your newly created pattern, and get expert fitting advice which will be translated back to your final pattern!

Former Sewing Producer for the Great British Sewing Bee and fitting guru Claire-Louise Hardie, will walk you through all the processes needed to create a paper pattern from your garment. Depending on the speed you sew and the complexity of the pattern you might even get to start sewing your final version.

About your teacher: Originally trained as a Costume Designer at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Claire-Louise has worked in all aspects of Costume for Theatre, Film and TV with an impressive CV of employers that includes ITV and BBC. Her diverse professional experience made her the perfect candidate for the role of Sewing Producer for the BBC's Great British Sewing Bee, a role she did from the early development in 2012 to series 4 in 2016. When not teaching at Studios across the UK, she's also a Love Sewing Magazine columnist, a Sewing Bee Author and a costumier. A self confessed sewing geek, she has recently completed a masters at London college of fashion in pattern and garment technology.

Skills needed: This class is aimed at confident sewers. You should already know how to sew and work with a commercial dressmaking pattern and have made several garments for yourself.

Materials: You'll need to bring the item or items you wish to clone and fabric similar to the original garment. You can bring a few garments with you to class and your personal pace and the complexity of the garments will dictate how many you can copy in the weekend. On average the maximum number of patterns cloned and fitted in a weekend is two. Please note that any garment with a lot of draping detail and structure, for example a strapless prom gown, is unsuitable if this is your first go at garment cloning!
