Crochet Granny Squares: Next Steps with Annie Windley - 10 October

£40.00

If you know how to crochet a basic granny square, this intermediate class is perfect to take your crochet to the next level. In the first part of the two-hour lession, you will learn a number of different variations on the basic square: such as starting with a circular motif, adding clusters for texture, and incorporating 3-dimensional effects like petals to give your project design some added interest and texture. You'll also learn the principles behind creating a granny square variation so that you'll be able to design a granny square of your very own.

In the second part of the lesson you'll learn a number of different ways to join your finished squares together: invisible methods, sewn and crocheted ones, a way to join squares as you go and also some decorative finishes to add a whole new layer of interest to your finished project.

About your teacher: Annie Windley learned to crochet, knit and embroider as a child and has always loved passing on the skills to others. Having originally trained as a teacher, Annie has taught craft skills to both children and adults alike. For many years she was a journalist, working on women's weekly magazines, writing features as well as checking all the knitting and crochet patterns before publication. She also helped at the company's knitting and crochet sessions, where many fellow journalists learned the delights of working with wool. Now Annie is spending her time designing, selling hand-made items, teaching one-to-one sessions in and around Crouch End, and writing about crochet and knitting on her website, pickingupstitches.com.

Skills needed: You must know how to crochet a basic granny square. If you're new to crochet, we recommend you start by taking our class Learn to Crochet Granny Squares first and then crochet at least six granny squares to get comfortable with the technique.

Scrap yarn will be provided for use during class when practicing new techniques.
