Freehand Machine Embroidery with Sophia Palmer - 3 November
Do you want to learn a completely new and unique way of using your sewing machine? This workshop will give you a new expressive way to decorate and create. Mixing free motion thread sketching with fabric appliqu̩ to create totally individual pieces of art! You'll learn how to draw with thread, tips for the perfect fabric appliqu̩é and how to trace your own designs into fabric art.
About your teacher: Sophia Palmer is the owner and creator of Jessalli Handmade, a personalised gifts company in Dorset. She spends her days making unique, fun and colourful soft furnishings and gifts for all the family. She is mostly self taught and has been stitching since she was 6 years old. After working in a handmade children's clothing company in Sydney, Australia on her gap year, she decided to give her parents a panic and come home to start her own company aged 19! And she hasn't stopped since. Her favourite textile media is free-hand machine embroidery and uses it to create textile portraits from photographs as well as cute pictures and gifts.
Skills needed: This class is suitable for total beginners. It is useful but not essential to know how to use a sewing machine.
Materials: Feel free to bring along a simple, clear picture or graphic of something you'd like to sew. (we will provide you with a couple of designs also). All materials and tools will be provided.
