Learn to machine-piece curves with Jenny Haynes! In this full-day class you'll learn all of Jenny's tips and tricks for how to sew curves with no pins while you work on the quilt of your choice. You'll get to choose from three of Jenny’s curvy designs to work with: 

  • The Sunflower, Jenny just received a ‘Highly Commended’ for her Sunflower Quilt at Festival of Quilts.
  • The Footloose, you get to master three different sizes of curves in this fun design, Jenny’s latest pattern.
  • Cosmos Ovals, a unique shape in a modern and graphic design.

You get to play with Jenny’s Quilting Templates and get a 10% discount on all templates if you decide you ‘need’ your own set.

About your teacher: A Swedish exile having spent the previous 18 years in Hackney, Jenny Haynes (n̩e Nilsson) studied Pattern Cutting and Tailoring in her native Stockholm. Soon after, she followed her passion for fabrics and moved to London to study Fashion and Textiles at the London College of Fashion. She went on to develop her own label 'Papper, Sax, Sten' (that's 'Paper, Scissors, Stone' if you're wondering!), working with textiles that reflect these different influences. Her bespoke quilts and furnishings are recognised for their clean and simple, mid-century modern design. Often mixing vintage fabrics with modern prints, rich colours with pastels, wool and silk with linen and cotton, while remaining faithful to her Scandinavian roots. This was recognised in Summer '15 when Jenny was invited by the Swedish Chamber of Commerce, along with 18 other Swedish designers, to be a part of Heal's Swedish Summer Exhibition. Skills needed: Students should know how to use a sewing machine and have completed a few sewing or patchwork projects prior to class.

Class size: 6

Materials: Fabric allowances vary with the different projects, so please decide on one so we can send you the relevant supplies list well in advance of class. If you just want to play with curves, 0.50m each of three colours will get you started on a cushion or a cot-sized quilt. We'll send you a 10% off code to use in the shop for any materials you need.

  • Sewing machine 
  • Sew-all #40 neutral thread (or matching your project)
  • Cutting board
  • Rotary cutter 
  • Iron and ironing board 
  • Fabric scissors
  • Pins
  • Un-picker
  • Thread-snips 
  • Jenny's Perspex templates (if you have them) or the paper version included in this class.
  • Rotary cutter 18mm (useful but not required)
  • Gridded ruler (useful but not required)
  • Spare blades to your rotary cutters (useful but not required)
