Slow Stitching with Carina Envoldsen-Harris - 23 March

Sold out

In this class experimenting and expressing your creativity is the main focus. During the class you will get a chance to try several needlework techniques as you work on a personal stitched story piece which you can either turn into for example a needlebook, a mini quilt or make a picture to hang on the wall. Some of the techniques included in the class: raw edge appliqué, blackwork embroidery, cross stitch, simple English paper piecing, mending techniques and more.

The class is suitable for beginners. The focus of the class is to turn favourite scraps and treasured embellishments into a unique piece while enjoying the slow and mindful process of adding layers and stitches to the cloth. If you already know a few stitches that is great but they don’t need to be perfect. Imperfections and torn edges are what add character to your piece.

You will be provided with the materials to work on the piece: base cloth, fabric scraps, thread and various embellishments. But it is very much recommended to bring any embellishments and fabrics you’d like to include. Vintage cloth or cloth that was once a favourite dress or shirt etc are great things to include as you stitch memories into your pictures.

Slow stitching is all about taking the time to pause and reflect on what you’re sewing. There is something kinda magical about working like this, slowly creating something with your hands and slowing down to do just this simple task of stitching.
