Wholecloth Quilting with Elli Beaven - 15 & 22 May

£95.00

In this class we will cover the processes of simple wholecloth quilting by hand, a wonderfully slow and meditative introduction to quilt making. In the first session we will begin by making a template, before drawing out the quilting design, basting together the layers of fabric and wadding and hand quilting the design. In the second session we will learn to make the binding, attach it with the sewing machine and hand finish on the reverse. You will have the choice of making your piece as a small quilt, cushion cover or wall hanging.

About your teacher: Elli is a quilt maker with a passion for sustainable making.  A keen stitcher since her dad taught her to use a sewing machine as a child, she turned her hand to quilt making seven years ago.  What started as hobby to counteract the hours spent at the computer writing a PhD thesis is now a full time passion.  In 2017 she started Wholecloth Studio, producing one of a kind quilts, homewares and accessories made from high quality repurposed and waste textiles.  Her work has been featured in Mollie Makes, Curated Quilts, Selvedge Magazine and No Serial Number and she sells both online and at contemporary craft fairs such as Selvedge Fair and the Craft Festival at Bovey Tracey.  You can see her work here https://www.wholecloth.co.uk or follow along on Instagram @wholeclothstudio.

Skills needed: Students should know how to use a sewing machine.
